UPDATE 9-17-2012
Ok I'm finally going to respond to to all the people who have responded to this video. Its been a long time since I originally posted both part 1 and part 2 of the WNDR3700 router. First off, USER ERROR MY ASS!!!! There is no user error, when these routers come in the factory box its basically plug and play. At least the wired portion of the router needs no setup. Second, on netgears own forum, on their website (at the time of these videos) there was a WHOLE thread dedicated to this model and bad firmware. No other router at the time commanded that much attention on netgears website. Lastly, like I said on the videos, im no network technician but I feel im a step higher than an average computer user. Every computer I own was built by me 7 in total, I have a dual router setup at home using a second router at home running DD_WRT and flashed by me. I have a WDTV and a Slingbox setup by me. Plus I have built several websites for friends all of which are still running as of today. Im not an expert by no means but definitely an above average computer user. I also had to go through all the hoops that netgears customer service makes you go through before sending a replacement. They just dont send one cause you claim your router is defective. each call could take an hour or two then followed by the replacement. No doubt these routers were defective. BUT im happy to report that when I did receive the last router it was working good. And yes I did exactly the same thing I did every other time previously. The signal was super strong and covered all of the house. I setup two networks one for family and one for visitors. I also used the USB connection to hook up an external hard drive and shared files in the network. Worked good but a bit slow. Still it was great to have especially when you have alot of computers in the house. In the end I will say the router is great but I cant help to also say if you get a lemon you would be upset and I did, several of them. Now to all the people that said I'm an asshole cause I took so long to return it. YES IM AN ASSHOLE. I definitely should have at least checked it out before storing it. I did learn a lesson there and that will never happen to me again. Well thats the update. I think this model has since been replaced. But if you are in the market to buy a used one I would be very careful and make sure it is working before paying. Right now mine is in the closet, I ended up using a comcast all in one router/modem thats pretty good, gigabit speeds and has many of the same features as the Netgear. I think when my comcast promotion is up I will go back to the netgear router. Well thanks to all that posted, even those people that called me an asshole.WNDR3700 router from netgear part 2 review, very unsatisfied with netgear so much so that I decided to make this video review. Well thanks to all that posted, even those people that called me an asshole.This is a very basic review of the NETGEAR N600 Wireless Router, but the primary focus was the Range Test, under some conditions, most were viewed live on BlogTV, mapped out on this video. You get to see two tests, one through lots of plaster and lath, and the main one, unobstructed, outside of a few trees.
Not shown, due to much personal information needed, the setup was fairtly easy. Attach the Ethernet Cable to one of the inputs on the router, and follow the instructions. All set. After that, no connection necessary, unless you want to change parameters, like the router's name, passwords, etc..
Range varied widely, depending upon how it's used, where it's located, and the structure it's in. A clear shot will net you 600 to 700 feet of reliable use, but dwindles fast from there, to about 80 feet in an older house with lots of plaster and lath (TONS of nails). In a steel, or concrete structure, these routers will not work after just 30 feet, unless you and the router are near an outside door or window.
Overall, this product works very well, and can deliver long-distance range. It's best to place it near a window, if you plan of using it a good distance away, but in most suburban plots, should do well anywhere (under an acre).
